KINGSTON, LUZERNE CO. (WOLF) — Thanksgiving is a time for gathering with family and friends, but not everyone is spending the day at home.

Some businesses are staying open, offering a warm meal to those working, traveling, or simply looking for a place to celebrate.

As many restaurants are closed during the holiday, Kevin’s Bar and Restaurant in Kingston has been welcoming guests on Thanksgiving since 2010, serving up traditional hearty meals and holiday cheer to anyone looking to join in the festivities.

One of their most popular dishes ordered on Thanksgiving is the Traditional Turkey Dinner, which includes turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes, kielbasa, green bean casserole, and more.

Along with the meal, patrons can order fun holiday themed drinks such as the pumpkin eggnog cocktail and the ‘Feliz Navidad’ tequila.

General Manager, John Lahr, sees many familiar faces as well as first-time customers come out to support the local restaurant on Thanksgiving and welcomes each person like family.

“On Thanksgiving, it’s more laid back. The music’s a little bit lower. The lights are brighter, and we have football playing off to the side. We’re running a traditional turkey dinner with all the trimmings. I mean it’s almost cheaper to come out to a restaurant like this than it is to cook your own meal,” said Lahr.

Many customers of Kevin’s Bar and Restaurant have made a tradition of having Thanksgiving dinner there over the past decade.

Sally VanScoy, who has been spending Thanksgiving at Kevin’s for the past four years, says it’s the perfect tradition for families who want to enjoy the holiday without the hassle of cooking and cleaning.

“It’s a lot of effort to put into doing a Thanksgiving dinner so to be able to come, relax, sit, and enjoy, there’s nothing better than that. Let’s keep on supporting our small businesses, whether it’s a restaurant, store, etc. Just look at the atmosphere here and the amount of people that are here enjoying it. It’s just a really awesome job that our small businesses and local restaurants are doing,” said VanScoy.

For the past few years, the restaurant staff at Kevin’s have upheld a tradition of their own by donating turkey dinners to the on-duty police officers of Kingston who are spending their holiday away from their families.

Lahr is thankful the restaurant is able to have the opportunity to give back to the community.

If you’re looking for a place to spend Thanksgiving next year, Kevin’s Bar and Restaurant will welcome you with open arms!
