Hi all, I would like to purchase Hallaca which is a Venezuelan food. Where can I find it in NYC?

I’m sure it’s good but can anyone tell me what this tastes like, because raisins, capers, olives and bacon bits sounds pretty gnarly together

In queens there’s a restaurant called arepas burger that tends to make them for the holidays.
Call around to all venezuelan restaurants, some of them are bound to be selling them.

Casa Ora in Williamsburg usually has them around Christmas. They’re pretty expensive, though. I think like $17 for one. My husband is from Venezuela and he really liked them.

Someone just posted in my neighborhood FB group about an asylum-seeking neighbor who is selling hallacas. Can’t vouch for them but I’m happy to send you the info if you want to get in touch. They are $10 each and she is offering to drop off anywhere in the city.

I believe ‘Arepas Cafe’ located in Astoria, Queens sells them during the holiday season. Not sure they are selling them as of now, call them beforehand.

If you are in Windsor Terrace, Park Slope, or Kensington, there is The Arepa Project that uses this FB Group for orders and the effort supports Venezuelan refugees:

Long time ago I put up a small web app to search in NYC menus, you can also sort by distance: https://ff.bitlet.org/?q=hallaca
The menus are stale though, I haven’t updated the index in a while.
follow and support the arepa project! all money goes directly to 4 refugees in our community. they are offering hallacas for christmas!
