Alright Guys, I figured this was worthy enough for my first ever Reddit Post! I did the unthinkable and attempted smoking a 15 pound Turkey, 7 pound boneless Prime Rib and a 10 pound spiral ham all at once for Thanksgiving. I was skeptical and tried doing a lot of research for smoking a turkey and a prime rib at once, then family also requested a ham so I figured what the heck… here’s how I did it.

This was all done using Meater Thermometers:

The afternoon prior, I used the Traeger Turkey Brine Kit and let it sit in a 5 gallon bucket for almost 24 hours, adding ice every now again.

I pulled the turkey out about an hour before cook time and covered it with salted butter and Kinders Poultry Rub, along with the rub that came in the kit (which seemed like it was for a 5 pound turkey). I started the Turkey at 10am on super smoke at 225 degrees.

I cranked it up to 325 degrees at 12pm.

After a hour of the Prime Rib sitting in butter, garlic and Kinders Prime Rib Rub, I placed the Prime Rib in.

This is where I got worried:

The turkey ended up cooking to 160 degrees at 2pm, leaving me with no other decision but to pull it. I chose to wrap it in butcher paper, then a bath towel, and placed it into a cooler.

I placed the spiral ham in at 3pm.

Shortly thereafter the Prime Rib also cooked quicker than my calculations, leaving me to pull it, wrap it and place it in the cooler as well.

I turned the Traeger up to 500 after putting the glaze on the ham.

Dinner was set for 5pm, so around 4:15 and the Traeger at 500 degrees, I placed the turkey and Prime Rib on to finish them.

I pulled everything at about 4:30-4:45.

I let them sit for just 15ish minutes since they already marinated in the coolers.

The turkey was so juicy it looked like a brisket…. The prime rib also was done to perfection…. And the ham also was very well complimented.

The moral of the story, is that I thought I screwed up our whole thanksgiving dinner but a cooler saved the day. It kept both meats right at temperature without causing it to dry out and everyone was very satisfied.

Happy Smoking!!

Hey! It looks like you posted an image!

If this is a photo of one of your cooks, maybe share the recipe and techniques
used, as it’s almost guaranteed one of the first questions you will be asked!

    *What seasoning did you use?

*How long did you cook it, and at what temperature?

*Did you use any special tricks or techniques?

    Traeger on!

You screwed yourself — you’ll have to be doing this every year now.

    Great job.

  3. Wrapping in the bath towel and putting in the cooler is the move. It keeps it warm without overcooking for a surprisingly long time.

The Holy Trinity of Thanksgiving meats all cooked on the same platform at the same time. Nice.
