Greetings burger lovers!
Today we are going back to 1988/1989 when McDonald's released a product called "Cheddar melt". It was only available then and for a short period of time in 2004. Then it was discontinued again.
What was it?
It was a beef quarterpounder with melted cheddar cheese sauce, topped with chunky onions that were grilled and doused in teriyaki sauce. All served in a round wheat/rye bun.
I gave it a twist by leaving out the bun and replacing it with two pan roasted slices of homemade bread (wheat/whole wheat/corn polenta and sprinkled with sesame and poppy seeds, last picture). Also, it became a double quarterpounder experience with me. Seasoned with salt and cracked black pepper.
It is a really delicious combination. Soft, gooey, salty. I can definitely see it enjoying somewhat of a cult following today. A true guilty pleasure.
A link in the comment's section shows one of the commercials for this product from back in the day.
Also a few pictures to illustrate things.
Have a good day, burger loving friends! 😉🍔

Oh my gosh. Those onions. Looks so damn good dude
That looks awesome. Do you have the sauce recipe?
Did you use cornflour and evaporated milk for the cheese sauce?
