Over 8,000 households are set to receive food support this Christmas season from the Ministry of Social Development and Family Services.

The ministry said each Member of Parliament will receive 200 food cards to be distributed to needy families “in an effort to ensure that vulnerable families who are experiencing hardship and are unable to fully provide for the nutritional needs of their respective families, are provided with the necessary support.”

“The exercise is in keeping with the spirit of caring and giving that the season of Christmas represents.”

The MPs offices will be responsible for distributing the cards.

Minister of Social Development and Family Services Donna Cox said each card will be valued at $500.

The cards are only redeemable at merchants approved under the ministry’s Food Support Program and are valid until December 31, 2024.
