my tasting group last week tried a brunello next to a barolo and everybody got messed up. i’m enjoying a chianti classico right now because i need the work too 😂

I find the Etna/Pinot Noir comparison to be off the mark. I think it’s better to think of them as a leaner Nebbiolo such as Valtellina if one had to make a comparison.

Italy has so many different great reds that I think it’d be close to impossible to make an infographic that distills the options into something so simple. There’s no Barbaresco, Nero d’Avola, Chianti Superiore, Primitivo, Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, etc.

I don’t think the median price/bottle is very useful/accurate either. Comparing based on scales of lighter/fuller bodied or sweet/dry would be more useful to navigate recommendations. Like, who’d care that a Dolcetto is about the price of a Nebbiolo when they taste drastically different?!
