Nick and Angela welcome the legendary Stephen Fry, a true polymath whose career spans acting, writing, comedy, and broadcasting. From his early days at Cambridge with Hugh Laurie to his iconic roles in Blackadder and QI, Stephen has captivated audiences for decades.

Today, he joins us to discuss Odyssey, the final book in his Greek mythology series.
Nick serves Stephen some gildas, and his favourite drink, vodka and soda. While Angela prepares ricotta filled peppers with salsa verde and crab, avocado sriracha cucumber boats, followed by a delicious one pot-cod with peppers, tomatoes and potatoes. The experts at Waitrose pair this with a Calmel Joseph organic pinot noir.

Stephen shares fascinating stories and facts (of course), including a heartwarming tale involving his dear friend Nigella Lawson. The conversation is filled with humour, great food talk, and deep insights into a life in the spotlight. Stephen Fry is exquisite company and this episode is a warm and entertaining way to kick off December.

We can’t all have a Michelin star chef in the kitchen, but you can ask Angela for help.
Send your dilemmas to dish@waitrose.co.uk and she’ll try to answer in a future episode.

  1. I also love cucumber. Firm, crispy cucumber is amazing, I could easily just munch on 3 or 4. And I would if they didn´t cost me my shirt

  2. Too censored, Fry's opening joke completely ruined. This is an adult dinner party no?

  3. Was going to make a comment about the Basques not being Spanish and San Sebastián actually being Donosti, but then I noticed all the positive comments about the presenters and Stephen Fry, so I relented. Oh, hang on……dam it. OK, so while I'm here, Basque cuisine is way better than Spanish. There, Ive said it and I don't care. But most good chefs would agree. The fact that one of the top chefs on Spanish TV is Basque speaks volumes I think.

  4. Who could have predicted a world where lonely people can pretend they are part of a woderful little social gathering with nice conversation in which I don't have to participate yet feel part of? Podacsts are a phenomenon for us lonely people with not enough money to own property and host little events such as this. It might be a virtual replacement for the real thing, but it really feels good to have my mood lifted as if I were there.

  5. Great episode. Great guest of course, but what a brilliant host Nick is as well. He really makes the conversation flow…

  6. Love this, have been watching some QI reruns and in Season 10 Stephen says something like ' he appreciates Safeway as it keeps the __ out of Waitrose' and it made me laugh, because it was just so him.

  7. Watching in America, wishing we had a show like this–great people talking about great food and genuinely enjoying each others company. A warm hug of a show.

  8. That title is likely going to really annoy some Basque people, as they claim to have invented tapas. Or pintxos as they call it. No need for inspiration from the Catalans, the Basque make some of the best pintxos/tapas there is. Some of the best food in Europe in general.

  9. A fry up is not egg, bacon and tomatoes, a fry up is the left overs from Sunday lunch thrown into a frying pan for Monday tea. But that is a good English breakfast………. You really need Henderson's Relish (for both dishes).

  10. Why is this one of my favorite food shows? I think because the way they don’t over hype the food. Cooking should never appear to be a chore.

  11. Stephen is absolutely right… It is now my desire to become rich enough to create a pub, members only, where nice, celebrated or introverted types can sit in a real pub and not be bothered if that is their wish. I will create a table of 'yes, you can approach for now' , for those whom want to engage with others. I totally get it.

  12. That title like saying he loves British food so we served him something from the Gerry Adams' cookbook.

  13. OMG Stephen Fry likes his fry up exactly how I like mine. Would say great minds think alike, but my minds pretty stupid 😜Thanks for another great show❤

  14. That's a Spanish Guindilla Pepper not Jalapeño. Very typical in Spain, not that hot really compared to other Chilli Peppers.

  15. Brilliant author , brilliant actor , brilliant host , brilliant storyteller , briliant humor , briliant mind and so on…there is only one Stephen Fry on the planet

  16. LOVE when Nick, Angela, the crew and the guest all laugh. That what a good meal with good company can bring out.

  17. This channel is so underrated, thank you for the early Christmas gift with this great interview. Lots of love from Australia 🙂 😍😃😍

  18. Well I have a great idea for Stephen
Do a pod cast from a pub you can build in ya back garden
Guests and yourself can indeed enjoy the atmosphere without the bloke that wishes to buy you a drink
Now please don't get me wrong
I mean, this is a great idea
Love your works over the years, and I'd like to see you enjoy a drink and a natter
Keep up the good work dish
    Love your show
