The middle cherry seems just a tad off center. But I don’t know if I’d call that a mess.

It look delicious!!
pocket_of_taters
I clean as I go. Or at least rinse stuff off, and wipe up spilled things. It makes it easier. I just use a lot of paper towels lol.
BichitoMaxx
You are supposed to clean dishes as you make and decorate the cake.

I clean up while the cake is baking. So I have about 30-45 mins to clean up the mess OR throw it in the dishwasher haha.

talk about it? damn, you lecturing like we came in the kitchen and made the mess lol.

Are you neurodivergent? I do this too. If I try to clean as I go, I lose track of time and majorly screw things up

I have a separate room for baking, it has it’s pwn sink. I clean my baking space after im done but I’ll leave all the dishes in the sink for an hour two (sometimes more) then wash them after I finally have the will to continue

Omg I hear you!! I rinse as I go and usually put things away as I go. I don’t wash as I go though. My poor husband is my sous chef and dishwasher. Buuut at least he gets to eat what I make lol

Nope, can’t talk about it.
Messes like that aren’t allowed in my kitchen. Even my kids knew that and cleaned as they cooked.

What mess? I only see a cake with an offside cherry on top. We have no idea what mess are you talking about other than that cherry off center.

The mess is exponential for me when having the colour and pipe the buttercream

Dishwasher safe items have been a game changer. I don’t have much bench space and a small kitchen. The sheer amount of dishes gets overwhelming, so I rinse a dish chuck in the dishwasher, and if I need it again, it’s never lost.
Cakes decorated and put the disheasher on by the end of it.

It kills my soul every time but I can’t stop baking haha!!!

Clean as you go!!!
fvckinratman
i use to do this, now i fill half of my sink off with hot water mixed with dawn and when i finish with a pot/utensil/etc i will rinse and throw it in there. put up ingredients as i go, and wipe down the counter and clean after (which would take ten minutes max at this point.
my least favorite thing is rolling cookies out because, even with mats, that flour goes everywhere and my countertop is so busy that i cant see all the crumbs/residue from it 😅
blabulation
Do you have a dishwasher? If so, emptying it should always be step one before you even open the recipe. The sink, too. Empty it. Fill the sink with soapy water and leave the dishwasher open while you’re cooking so it’s just as easy to put a dirty dish in the dishwasher or soapy sink as it is to put it down on the counter. This is the only way I can manage!
TheFlyingMunkey
I have less counter space in my kitchen than is on display in this photo. As soon as I finish with one bowl it has to get washed and put to drip dry, I just don’t have the space to let clutter pile up.
Oh how I long for just an additional metre of space, it would change my life 😀

I fill the non garbage disposal side of the sink with hot soapy water. I toss stuff in there as I go and while things are baking I wash them. If I’m too wiped out to wash them (which is often), at least they’re in the sink and all in one place.

I always make sure my sink and dishwasher are empty before I start anything. Hand washed stuff immediately gets hot soapy water. The rest goes gets a rinse and into the dishwasher!

What helps me to “clean as I go,” as everyone is saying, is to plan cleaning time into my bakes. If it’s a basic cake, it’s second nature now, but sometimes i do more such as, different fillings, different colored buttercream, multiple cakes, multiple decorations, etc. I’ll plan the order in which I make the different components and build cleaning time into the plan. Okay, my cakes are baking and I’m waiting for the jam to cool, and candy melt decorations are freezing in the mold, perfect time to clean! Also, I reduce my dishes by weighing things directly into the bowl and reusing as many bowls as I can. If I’m making a vanilla cake and chocolate cake, I mix my dry vanilla ingredients first them mix my chocolate dry ingredients. The dry ingredients are usually the same, except for cocoa powder.
GloomOnTheGrey
I just clean things up as I’m done with them. That way, there isn’t a big pile of dirty dishes at the end. It also keeps my counter space open if I need to spread out a bit more.

This is why i dont cook/bake all that often

My least favorite part about baking, cooking, or anything related to preparing food, is the mess that comes with it. I’ve learned to clean as I go because it makes me so anxious to see everything build up into this monster of pots, pants, and utensils. Even seeing this picture gives me flashbacks and raises my heart rate 😅

Ah, that’s why we should charge over $100 for a home made cake. But no, people expect it to be $20 dollars. The cake batter is usually not even made in $20 worth of our time 😂 let alone cooling, cutting, frosting and packaging it. Great job! Looks delicious.
