Official description: “By the late 90s the selection processes for Pavillon Rouge had become increasingly rigorous leaving the Château with an entire third selection of grapes. Still it took over a decade to determine that the quality of that fruit could provide an opportunity to bottle a third wine that still met the high standards of the Château. Margaux de Château Margaux was born in 2009. Now, we see the finest selection go to Château Margaux, and then to Pavillon and Margaux de Château Margaux, with still a fourth selection being sold off. This 2015 vintage is composed of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot that aged for 15 months in 10% new and 90% second-use oak barrels.”
This was absolutely lovely. Juicy and delicate, but obviously not without intense structure. Ordered at a restaurant so no decanting. Evolved in the glass over a few hours to an exceptional point. Definitely still young – tons of potential.
Crunch red fruits, black cherry, mineral, fresh, long finish. 94 points.

I found Chateau Margaux’s third to be quite ordinary. For sure it’s a well-made Bordeaux but nothing stood out to make it a Margaux or even a generic “very good wine”. Maybe some age on it could help develop some interesting notes but these aren’t meant to be cellared and should perform as expected upon release. My advice would be to pay double and choose Pavillon Rouge to get an order of magnitude greater experience.
