After eating 100 bean and cheese burritos, Elie Ayrouth (aka bean and cheese burrito guy), discovers that 3 restaurants within walking distance of our office have all been rated by the Michelin Guide. Zach and Wahlid join him on an adventure across the city, as they travel to all 3 Michelin Restaurants to see if their bean and cheese burritos are worthy of the hype. The boys eat and rank the bean and cheese burritos from Burritos La Palma, Lola Gaspar, and El Mercado to see which of the three is their favorites, and along the way learn a bit about the Michelin Guide rating system and what makes for a good bean and cheese burrito.

  1. you have to try Los De Juarez Burritos in anaheim. it's not as good as burrito La palma but its up there for sure maybe a 9.2

  2. El Pollo Loco years ago introduced the Smokey Mountain Black Bean Burrito. Later on you could get the same thing off-menu by asking for a BRC burrito with black beans. Now you can't get it anymore. 😢

  3. Thanks! Now I gotta make a pot of beans so I can have a bean & cheese burrito, Ima be obsessed until I get one now! Unfortunately I live an hour or so north of Santa Ana so I'll be making my own. It's pretty much a burrito wasteland here in spite of the hispanic population, but there is one place that deserves a Michellin star, it's called Garden Market – in Santa Paula – and they make the best Chile Relleno burrito on the planet!! Not to be missed!

  4. Michelin rated is super common and just denotes a place that's worth going to, often involving category yearly awards. Not to be confused with michelin stars which are EXTREMELY difficult to earn and maintain. None of these places have stars far as i know, but they have good food nonetheless

  5. As someone who found Wahli through Jus Reign, which turned me onto Zach, I’ve missed you guys 😭💚

  6. Isn't it pathetic that you have to rely on a tire company to tell you what tastes good? I mean shit, you either like it or you don't.

  7. For anyone really wondering — a Michelin restaurant is an eatery of exquisite excellence, posture, service, etc. including the five characteristics that he'd mentioned. The most important of everything, though, is consistence. A restauarant isn't graded how you would typically think it would be depending on its stars; every 'Michelin star' is awarded on basis of continued quality. The stars are not given out as a simple '1 to 10' rating, but rather a restaurant must pass the immensely-strict qualifications every time that they're called upon to do it.

A star is granted every time they exceed expectations and no one is rewarded multiple at a time. The more stars you have, then the longer your establishment has 'serving the best'.

Michelin stars can be highly-debated, though, and the system sometimes has no real and outlined standards.

  8. I enjoyed the shy coward. Thanks for the inspiration before I do my meal prep frozen bean burritos tomorrow.

  9. I am skeptical about Michelin guide stars. Bc I know for a fact that there are mind-blowing tacos in hole-in-the-wall spots…but there are also Michelin star spots where the same type of taco is mediocre and expensive. THANK YOU for telling me that Michelin Guide accepts mucho dinero from rich folks. The game is rigged.

  10. The stretch criteria is nonsense. It's not pizza. The squeeze is juvenile. The best B&C burritos are creamy and the cheese is dissolved into the rich beans.

  11. Wait. All three of these places are DTSA. I promise you you can get just as good a burrito at literally any taco shop in Santa Ana.

  12. A good bean and cheese burrito is hard to beat, but has to have fresh chopped onions for me. The crunch adds a much needed texture, and not much goes better with beans and cheese than onion.

  13. as soon as i saw the first restaurant, I knew it would be the best. these other places try too hard. the first restaurant, won the star because of how good the burritos are, the other places won a star and just so happen to also have a bean and cheese burrito on the menu.

  14. if its not in San Diego you're not serious about Mexican burritos, little web hint: Nicos taco shop they have two locations OB and Bay Park.
