Found 3 of these tri-tip steaks at Safeway for $8.50 USD (total) so I figured I’d try them out. I wasn’t expecting much, but they happened to be the most flavourful and tender budget steaks I’ve ever had. Pan seared in a cast iron on super-high heat, then finished on low heat and basted in butter, thyme and fresh cloves of garlic; these were comparable to steaks I’ve had in the past that were 2-3x the price. Was this just good luck? Why isn’t tri-tip more popular? (Maybe it is and I just live under a rock, lol) anyway, I will definitely be buying this cut again. Let me know what you guys think

  1. I’ve never seen a tri-tip cut into individual strips. Always in a big portion where I am. Looks like it turned out good though

The marbling is fantastic. Closer to a prime grade for sure!

Not bad looking steaks and you cooked them really well. Glad it worked out!
