It’s like uncooked pink slime they put in dogs. Absolutely revolting, a real find 🧐

It is one of those like 1960s era “salads” full of fruit and probably marshmallow and I would bet coconut. The pink? Most likely a combination of Cool Whip and a red fruit of some sort.

Something with beetroot… maybe fish like hering (at least that’s what it would probably be in europe… the other stuff doesn’t look too european though)

Probably pink lady salad. My grandma made it quite a bit back in the 80’s and early 90’s.

“Pink Stuff” – Cool Whip and cherry pie filling. It’s a Southern holiday food staple, at least in Texas (where I grew up).

I don’t particularly care for it because it’s way too sweet, but my grandmother made it every Thanksgiving and Christmas (along with Dole cranberry “sauce”, so it wasn’t to replace that side).

Edit: I agree that there is likely something else mixed in, my grandma would add pecans, but I’ve also seen mini marshmallows, shredded coconut, canned fruit salad, etc.

Edit 2: I’ve also heard it called Pink Fluff, as well as many other names, and I love reading all the variations of both names and ingredient combos. I’m so sorry to whomever had to deal with the addition of cottage cheese 🙁

I remember my friend from the US sent me a photo of a Thanksgiving plate and there was this pink something on it, he paid $40+ for that plate

  7. Aside from the pink goop it looks like we’ve got baked KD on the menu. Also the drink is on it’s own saucer for some reason. That’s interesting

Might be one of those heavenly hash whatever with a million names for it. With the fruit, whipped cream, marshmallows, etc. It can turn that color depending on the fruit etc used. But looks kinda funny and runny.

That food looks bland enough, I don’t think it needed the side of Pepto.

My aunt makes that. “Pink fluff.” With cool whip, jello, and mandarin oranges. Maybe cream cheese? It’s pretty good.

Looks like “Pink Stuff” or “Pink Fluff.” It’s more popularly known as “Orange Stuff” but the stuff in the picture was made with Cherry or Raspberry flavor instead. If it is what I think it is, it’s DELICIOUS, and if I don’t make it, my dad makes it every year for all the holidays.

It’s Orange (or in this case Cherry or Raspberry, but you can use any flavor) jello mix, mixed with mandarin oranges, pineapple, and cottage cheese, then cool whip folded in. My dad likes to add mini marshmallows to his, and sometimes people mix in chopped nuts.

A lot of people say it’s a Southern thing. I can’t confirm this since I’ve lived on the West Coast my whole life. I’d say there is a fair number of people here who know “what it is” but don’t know what to call it.

Edit to add: I agree with someone else saying it looks a bit runny. It looks that way because the cool whip wasn’t folded in, but rather mixed well so the peaks were lost. Also the color doesn’t come from the fruit (unless it’s the Cherry pie filling mixed with cool whip dish), the color comes from the jello packet.

The pink stuff gives me war flashbacks of my cousin dunking rice (cooked with butter and salt) into strawberry pudding to make strawberry rice pudding

  13. Lobscouse? I once blended ham and split pea soup for my kid, it looked kind of like this.

  14. Somehow, I find it very strange that Americans put salty and sweet food on the same plate.

Pink fluff it’s really good. Marshmallows, jello mix, orange slices, cottage cheese, and cool whip. We make it a lot for different holidays

  16. Green_Mare6

In the Midwest, particularly MN, that is a “salad”. 😉

  17. DoctorFunktopus

That’s my nana’s holiday pepto bismol casserole!

I thought it’s rosollikastike but then I saw all the other stuff on the plate and realized this is not a Finnish food sub.

My aunt makes something like this with Cool Whip, cherry pie filling, crushed pineapple and marshmallows. We always had it along with the whole meal. I’m in MN.
