I bought jalapeño and black naga seeds. My plan was to plant them in these containers on january and keep them indoors until march (I'll move them to a pot then). But I didn't realise it said "under glass". What does that mean? That they want me to keep them in a greenhouse or something like that?

I would not recommend using those tiny biodegradable cups. In my experience, they are very hard with regulating water. Too little water, and they dry out in hours. Too much water, and it is retained within the material and it begins to mold.

The sowing of seeds entirely depends on the type of climate you live in, ignore the chart

  2. I assume the “under glass” part is referring to keeping them in a dome until they start sprouting to keep the humidity up. I agree with Exile, your timing will depend on your climate.

  3. It is telling you that you’ll want to grow them to seedlings in an enclosed environment for the first three months, then can be transplanted, and around 7-9 months from the start you’ll be getting results (peppers to harvest). It’s a non-specific 12-month timeline because it doesn’t require a particular time of year if you’re doing it indoors.

Under glass is an enclosed environment that can also get sunlight, which means glass…do a dome or greenhouse for higher humidity. (Without this, the surface can tend to dry out faster, which is where the seeds are because they don’t have roots yet). Open ground can mean another pot without the greenhouse or outside, with 7-9 months to produce.

  4. Huh, I bet the under glass means in a greenhouse or something similar. Basically, start them inside until they are decently big. Peppers tend to do better started inside and transplanted after they have established leaves and roots. You dont need a greenhouse, just a grow light big enough for seedlings. (And be sure to harden off before they go outside if you use a grow light)

Highly recommend just getting some seed starting mix. If you don’t want to buy seed starting trays, solo cups or similar are great options. Use two cups stacked, cutting big holes in the bottom of the inner one, then add a rock or spacer between the cups so it can get some airflow. You can bottom water in the bottom cup as well, and with big holes it drains well.
