So I just finished mocking up my grow tent. I got this Viparspectra P1000 for a good deal at the end of last season and this is something I wanted to do for awhile because my basement is slightly colder than ideal so hoping this will give my plants some extra warmth. This setup will primarily be used for starting my warm weather crops beginning in February, and occasionally I’ll use it to grow herbs through the winter.
The problem is I don’t have much experience with “grow” lights. I’m only familiar with shop lights which are not very powerful so I typically just kept them a few inches away from my plants which always worked perfectly. I believe this light is 100 watts at full power.
How does PPFD change as the distance of the light changes? Ideally I would like to utilize the entire tent which is a 2.5×2.5ft area so I’d like to keep the light at least 24-30 inches. Based on [this PPFD map](https://imgur.com/a/j7OKYED) if the light is kept at the same distance and power is reduced by 50% the PPFD would be half as intense all around, right? But if the light is raised up twice as high and power is kept the same the PPFD is reduced by 4 times, is that right?
