My neighbor generously gifted me a bag of opihi (limpets). Since I already had some uhu (parrotfish), I decided to make a classic poke. This dish features cubed uhu, inamona (roasted candlenut), limu kohu (a type of seaweed), pa'akai (sea salt), the mashed ake (liver) of the uhu, the opihi, and a sprinkle of nioi (chili pepper flakes).
While modern poke has certainly gained popularity and is undeniably delicious, this traditional preparation holds a special place in Hawaiian hearts. It may not look as appealing to some, but to us, it's pure gold. ✨

Watch out with the uhu organs if it was wild caught in Hawaii. Uhu is known to have some ciguteria. Not that many cases from Uhu but the toxin is more concentrated in the head and guts.

Looks good though. Haven’t had opihi in years. Used to go Kona to pick with my dad as a kid since Oahu hard to find.
