The Salem Presbyterian Church will continue their tradition this year in offering a free Christmas Dinner to those who would otherwise be alone for the holiday.

Church member Amy Telford says this is the 48th year for the event.

“This is a dinner that is designed to give a place to go and people to be with for those who might otherwise be alone,” Telford said. “People that may be empty-nesters or have children who come on alternate weekends, or those who have friends but no family. Everyone is invited to come and enjoy the wonderful meal and fellowship at the presbyterian church on Christmas.”

Telford says the program begins with the singing of Christmas carols at eleven, with dinner at noon.  The church is asking for reservations so they know how much food to prepare.

Telford says they would also welcome those who would like to volunteer to help with serving or in donating to cover the cost of the meal.

The phone number to call for reservations and to help is (618) 548-2754.

Telford says transportation can be provided to the church, but they do not to carry-outs because it would defeat the purpose of providing fellowship to everyone on Christmas Day.
