KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – The Senior Citizens’ Christmas Day Dinner makes sure no one is left eating alone.

It’s for all seniors 60 years old and over who are unable to be with family or friends.

Richard White, former KCPD Officer, thought of the idea back in 1977.

“It’s a family affair, that’s what it’s designed by,” White said. “We have the biggest family in Kansas City.”

What started off as just a few dozen people turned into hundreds spread out across the metro at three locations.

“We are just following in His footsteps, showing love to our fellow man and woman, and that’s what it’s all about,” White said.

It takes a year to prepare and get volunteers and donations.

They’ll prepare 500 lbs. of turkey and over 1,000 plates. They will also deliver food to anyone homebound.

“Everyone here is family,” White said. “No one should eat alone.”
