Blast from the past

On the nose, it shows off bright cranberry and dark berry notes mixed with hints of chocolate, warm spice, and a subtle woodsy hint, and leather-like depth. The aromas feel inviting without being too formal.

Taking a sip, you’ll notice a burst of sweet and tart boysenberry and dark cherry, followed by rich plum flavors. There’s a slight earthiness, maybe like an under ripe olive? Not mushroom or moss, something, and a tiny bit of licorice in the background that faded. A peppery finish brings a nice bit of kick to it, that Zin kick was still there, and at first there’s a bit of heat, but over a couple hours in a decanter, it really settles down. As it opens up, those stone fruit flavors shine, and the wine becomes more balanced and enjoyable the longer you spend with it. Went super great with the pizza

I’m partial to Lodi Zins but always open to recommendations

I bet that’s good. I had a 2013 cab from them that was superb
