You ever stand on the fryers to clean the hoods?

Shoes on the fryer are the least of my concern, that kitchen is nasty.

    Oh my god.

Not only is this terribly disgusting but it’s ridiculously unsafe.

So all that shit that’s on the ground that has now crusted up in the soles of your shoes is now going into the thing that serves food?

And what happens if the person slips? Guess what? I knew a guy that did that and got 3rd degree burns on his leg.

    What a shitshow.

Had a guy whose foot slipped and went into the fryer. Luckily the fryer temped out to about 225 degrees. He got a few blisters but it could have been worse.

At least put some cardboard down to stand on

Worst kitchen horror story I ever heard… dude was doing this, slipped in, and had his jeans deep fried to his legs..

Not over a fryer but on a grill once but had cardboard to step on n only b/c I was told to by the kitchen maanager.

  7. No Doc Martens allowed in any kitchen I’ve worked in.

Only if the fryer is turned on, at 400° and it’s greasy/slippery on top. It needs to have the proper blend of arrogance and stupidly, but must also be a bit of a challenge.

There’s no universe in which I stand above a lit and filled fryer. But definitely on the grill top/stove.

Judging by the built up oil crust on the griddle next to it, this is probably just standard disgusting behavior for them lol.

    The grills, yes. Fryers? No.

We had layers of cardboard on top, and we were temporarily closed for service until we fully deep cleaned the grills as well.

We only did this because our vent hood fan had went all crazy and broke apart, this sent some random stuff everywhere and a dude came to fix it. Had to give a bunch of refunds, but I am not gonna serve you weird venthood goop with your food.

    The fryer is hopefully off.

But from that picture alone, I see plenty of stuff already, and I am quite sure the fryer is actually on.

    Gross.

Yes. On top of a sheet tray. I had previously pulled them out and stood on the ladder, until one day the owner came in and said I was wasting time and to do it that way. I was 19 and due to extenuating circumstances pretty desperate to keep that job and so I did it.

Fell in, deep fried my foot, couldn’t walk for a month, was only paid for 2 weeks of missed wages, and when I went back they had hired someone else to do my job and said they had no hours for me.

Not on the fryers, but on work benches; Yes I have. There’s no other proper way to reach the top shelves to clean them properly. Of course I’ll also clean the work benches after I’m done with the shelves. And yes it’s not exactly “safe” safe. But it’s nothing too bad either imo. Not worse than using a ladder at home as far as I’m concerned. And as long as you also clean the area you stood on afterwards it’s all good.

I had a guy stand on the fryer lids to clean the hoods, after I warned him not to.

At some point, he was no longer standing on the fryer, but in it.

It had only been turned off for about fifteen minutes.

These are the worst shoes to be working in a kitchen in like ever

Whoo boy, my time to shine! Had a mini Eminem wanna be trying to prove his worth. Decided it was a good idea to put a sheet tray over the fryer to grab the vents after I told him to not worry about it as one dude was like 6’8 and just reaches up there gets it. Well the pan slipped and we heard the scream. His shoe melted to his foot.

  17. This is mid service it appears… is the dryer on? Does he like fried skin? Because he’s close to having a free meal.

Years ago a guy in my city put a 2×4 over a fryer and stood on it, it broke

Had an old line cook I worked with do this. (When I was no longer working with him) He told me the story where one day he was cleaning the inside of the hoods whilst standing on the fryer. He slipped as you would assume one would, and ended up with him standing on one leg in the fryer. He got out as quick as one could, pulled his jeans up, got his shoe off, and when he went to pull his sock off his skin instantly peeled off. Ended with a small settlement of 15k I believe plus medical bills paid for.
