Ooo nice to see a Chinese place making the list since that hasn’t been as common as you’d expect recently. And another Mexican place.

    I also wonder what dropped.

  4. Has anyone been to both the NYC and Seoul Jungsik? I recently experienced the Seoul location and was pretty disappointed. Didn’t feel like it was a 2 star at all.

  5. Laridianresistance

I really like Jungsik, and as a Korean American it’s great that the place is being lauded as a 3 star. There are definitely subtleties to their course design and implementation that could warrant 3 stars.

The ambiance is a little cold though? Like I don’t know if it *feels* entirely like a 3 star should. Been to several others in various countries and it’s generally been hard to disagree with the feel of a place being a 3 star Michelin. The food, however, I feel could definitely belong, even though I’m sure not everyone would agree. It’s remarkable how they morph some of the humbler Korean staples into really well balanced bites, like their kimbap course. And of course, they have my favorite octopus in the city.

  6. HammerOfFamilyValues

They need to come back and take away Cote’s star. It’s an absolute travesty they have a star at all.

  7. I’m glad there’s finally a shakeup (Daniel losing a star, Jungsik new three star), and I’m really happy for Jungsik, but I wish there were more of a shakeup.

IMO Jungsik deserved it. Everything about the restaurant is world-class. People are surprised only because a few other places felt “ahead in line” for the promotion. If it were up to me, I’d demote all the old three stars and promote 4-5 other two stars.

  8. nicko0409

Jungsik is well deserved, we went there 3ish years back, and it’s been my favorite all these years.

Never been to a 3*, but I’ve determined most 1* to not be worth it. I’ve had much better experience finding a unique spot and ordering a few apps to share.

Most of the wine pairing at other places is very meh. Jungsik has been my golden standard since theirs actually complimented the food taste and played off of each other.

  9. fluffanuttatech

Much deserved for jungsik. Never had such attentive staff, literally everyone said happy birthday to me when I went. And the food is superb

  10. colinzane9

Genuinely had the worst dining experience at corima this year. Three hour meal for two people with nothing offered or apologies given for any wait.

  11. So the law of the conservation of 3 star restaurants is confirmed.
Not the one I expected to get a bump, but ok. I haven’t actually been.

I was pretty sure when it was time to award another 3rd it would be Atomix, or maybe Gabriel Kreuther.

  12. tuffgnarl223

My roommate is about to become sous chef! We’re gonna celebrate 🎉

  13. cupcake_not_muffin

Do any of these places have outdoor dining?

  14. MSPCSchertzer

Dang they open Christmas day and have a reservation, so tempting but $350 before wine pairing, that is Le Bernadine territory. Anyone been?

  15. MikeJamesBurry

I hope The Modern earns the third Michelin star it rightfully deserves.

  16. nightkingscat

Happy for Jungsik. Still remember my amazing meal there 3 years ago. Food and service were top notch, definitely a step above the 1-star modern Korean places I’ve been to.

  17. Putrid_Prior_280

At this point i feel like 1 Michelin Star doesn’t mean anything. I’ve been to many Michelin one star restaurants that were worse than local mom and Pop stores. And seeing how shota omakase in Williamsburg just got one proves my point.

  18. toocacked

Happy for rosella/bar miller they have a dedication to their process that felt Michelin quality to me. Felt like rosella could’ve been a 1 star joint

  19. JuanJeanJohn

Anyone have a list of who lost a star this year? I see Casa Enrique lost their one star.

  20. How is casa mono in the same league as Joji and 63 Clinton? If casa mono gets a star, the latter two should get two stars. While Joji and 63 Clinton are fine restaurants, neither of them are two star quality.

  21. quantumkahane

What’s the difference between bib and Michelin?

  22. vinegar_strokes68

Shota is fantastic! Glad to see them get starred.

  23. TheHiggsBoson1

Very surprised about Jungsik. 1* experience, 3* price

  24. SleepyHobo

Michelin reviewers are still delusional about Rezdora.

They’re either getting bribed or have palettes that are destroyed. The ambiance is cramped to the max, the service is excruciatingly slow, disjointed, and lacks care, and the pasta dishes are inedible due to the obscene amount of salt they put in them.

Really want to understand why they are tarnishing the Michelin reputation by endorsing a third rate restaurant.

  25. Suspicious-Spinach30

I haven’t been but based on hype it seems surprising that Kappo Sono hasn’t gotten a star, anyone have insight there?

  26. Glad to see some Indian places crack the list, even if not an official star. Always felt the Michelin guide underrates Indian food.

  27. aka-nanci

The hype for fine dining Korean food is truly hitting its milestone!

  28. pokerface0122

I expected it, but it’s criminal coqodaq got an award. It’s nowhere near the best korean fried chicken in the city and the only thing they have going for them is that the restaurant presents itself as bougiee.

I thought michelin awards are supposed to be only about the food?
