Came into work this morning and someone (no one will admit it) knocked the trigger pull for our Ansul system half out.

It happens. Fire inspector will replace the glass rod

Had a dish who caught one with the corner of a glass rack once (two hands on rack pulling it off a stack of 3-4 on the table).
Added a pull cage (protection cage easily pulled off) shortly after. Moved the location a few years later to an unused wall.

👀…son…the nightmare that you avoided.

I accidentally knocked a fire alarm on with an empty trash can.
As I was replacing it (in an overhead manner) back against the wall the bottom of the can pulled the alarm. I was quite embarrassed having to tell the bosses that I did it by mistake.

Did it go off?

This is common. The pull station is not super sensitive. You have to yank out at least a foot of cord before you start to feel the resistance of the ansul trigger. You can buy a pack of pull station rods online and the peg on the right has a setscrew you can remove with an allen wrench to put the new rod in. This will help you avoid the “repair” fee from the fire company and a citation from the inspector.
This happened in my kitchen and I got super nervous. The fire guy came and replaced the little red breaker bar and he pulled the wire out of the wall and showed me that there’s like a good foot and a half a wire you have to pull hard to actually set the ansul system off. Never would have known and still scared the shit out of me.

We had a fire (not bad enough for the Ansul) which meant that our Ansul had to be inspected. Turns out it had been empty for years.
Hey this used to happen all the time in my kitchen. You can get a pack of replacement rods for thirty five bucks. They are glass and easy to break. You will need a small allan key to replace it. Or, if you are tired of the glass rods breaking, the wooden burger skewers are the same diameter, don’t accidentally break and are still breakable in an emergency when you actually pull on the thing. Just paint it red with a sharpie and the fire inspector will look right through it, as ours has for some years now.

I had someone on their first day pull it trying to fill a glass of water. I dove across the room to stop him from trying harder the second time
I once threw an empty box out of the way and broke the red bar, thought I was going to be cooked. I wouldn’t let any one walk without 5 feet of it until the guy came and showed me that we weren’t in any danger of it going off.

That happened to ours. The nut on the inside had somehow worked itself loose and fallen off. Just opened the cover, reattached the nut, and we were golden.

It’s a long cord, you’d be surprised. As long as it didn’t go off it’s most likely okay.

Found a really well put together video of the [ANSUL system](https://youtu.be/Qt3GF1O3ZSc?feature=shared).
