As Thanksgiving approaches, Austin’s bakeries and stores come alive with a mouthwatering array of pie offerings. From classic pumpkin to inventive twists on pecan, local bakeries and stores are vying to create the perfect dessert for the holiday feast.
Mañana Coffee
Mañana offers specialty holiday pies for pre-order to help ease Thanksgiving preparations. Options include caramel apple pie, spiced pumpkin pie and bourbon chocolate pie, starting at $35. Customers can also top off their slices with ice cream pints at checkout. Orders can be placed online and picked up at their South Congress location from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 25 through Nov. 27, and from 9 a.m. to noon on Thanksgiving Day.
Walmart
A good variety of pie cravings can be satisfied at Walmart. The store offers regular-sized pies ranging from eight to ten inches, and mini pies for anyone holding on strong to their diet goals on Thanksgiving Day. Prices for mini-pies start at just 84 cents, with a 10-inch pumpkin pie available for $6.28. Customers can order online and pick up in-store, or have it delivered to their front door. Walmart stores will be closed on Thanksgiving Day.
Whole Foods
Whole Foods is selling holiday pies as part of their Thanksgiving dessert menu. Customers can shop online or in-store from options starting at $13.99. Their menu includes vegan options like the Michigan mixed berry pie, as well as cherry pie, pecan pie, apple pie, classic pumpkin pie, apple brown sugar crumble pie, and brownie pecan pie. The desserts serve groups between six and eight people. Pre-orders must be placed by Nov. 26 and can be picked up at any of the Austin locations from Nov. 22 to Nov. 28.
Trader Joe’s
Austinites can find the pies they are craving at Trader Joe’s. The store is offering apple crumble pie, pumpkin pie, pecan pie, Nantucket style cranberry pie, as well as “teeny tiny” apple, and pecan pies. Prices start at $4.99 for the small pies. A 24-ounce pecan pie will run you $9.99. The store does not sell any products online, so if you want a taste of these desserts, your best option is to buy in-store before Thanksgiving Day. All stores will be closed Nov. 28.
H-E-B
The H-E-B Bakery is offering several types of pies for the store’s holiday pre-order menu. Prices start at $4.75. A 10-inch pumpkin pie is $10.38. Options include gourmet pumpkin pie, pecan pie, cinnamon apple pie, cherry pie, praline pie and more. Customers can buy online and pick up orders on Nov. 27. Orders must be placed by Nov. 27. Pies can also be found in-stores. Stores are open from 6 a.m. to noon on Thanksgiving Day.
Central Market
Central Market is offering eight types of pies for pre-order. They include pumpkin chiffon pie, pecan pie, four seasons pie, and pumpkin cream cheese pie. Each dessert serves between eight and ten people. Prices start at $13.99. Orders can be placed online and picked up in-store at the Westgate or North Lamar locations. Reservations can be placed through Nov. 25 at 6 p.m. A minimum $50 purchase is required per order. Pickup times are available from Nov. 25 to Nov. 28.
