On the nose, notes of permanent marker, mousey, mushroom, certainly rustic. Wasn’t getting ANY fruit whatsoever but was told that’s the style.

Limited complexity on the palate, one of those “meh” experiences. Not a wine that invites you in to drink more.

Sad because I was looking forward to trying this producer, but may be a situation where I have to wait longer.

Oh man, that doesn’t mirror my admittedly limited experiences with LaFarge Volnay. Any chance it was corked or otherwise damaged?

That sounds like a flawed bottle. An ‘18 Volnay shouldn’t be mousey or devoid of any fruit whatsoever, and Michel Lafarge is an outstanding producer.

Did you order this at a restaurant? I would’ve returned it and if they pushed back, I would’ve asked their somm to taste it and tell me to my face that that’s how it’s supposed to taste.

Did the somm taste the wine before they served it?!
