New to Canned Fish and wondering which to try first
Bought some tins at my local Asian Market and other grocery stores but wondered which should I try first as a newcomer

KO mackerel. Tbh the pacific sardines tend to be fishier and have a weirder texture that some beginners may not like. If i was giving someone dines to eat for the first time i would do KO brislings in oil or smoked latvian sprats, or french sardines as they tend to be not fishy at all and scale free.

The King Oscar Mackerel in Sweet Thai Chili Sauce as I haven’t had that, and it sounds amazing.

Cook you up a bowl of rice and crack open that nissui 🤤
Heat the can first by putting it in a bowl of hot water for a couple minutes

King Oscar sardines in tomato sauce. That was my first and it’s a good way to ease yourself in.

I’m a huge fan of the Wild Pacific. EVOO and the balance of smoke and salt to me is perfect. Enjoy the bunch. Edit: Let us know how you ranked them after trying.

Iwashi in sweet miso is an easy gateway drug because it’s so damn good.

KO Mackerel in olive oil is real forgiving.

My vote would be if you like the taste of smoked things… anything smoked. Pretty much all smoked fish is untouchable. Maybe don’t start with mussels I suppose, just because the texture might be off-putting. But smoked sardines, smoked mackerel, smoked trout… godly.

KO mackerel … prepare it in a thick homemade marinara over pasta … divine.

A tin of King Oscars, a sleeve of saltines, Tabasco sauce, and thou…

Hard to go wrong putting mackerel with chili into any sort of red pasta sauce.
Nissui are greatway drugs too, but they’re a little more delicate. I like them with cold soba noodles, scallion, and toasted sesame tossed with a little shaoxing and a dash of light soy sauce.

you should try the sardines in olive oil

Mackerel is a safe option, very mild.

Thanks everyone! The suggestion are greatly appreciated. Tried out the KO Mackerel in Olive Oil just straight out for the full experience and WOW this stuff is good. I plan to try the Sweet Thai Chili next and the Nissui Brand tomorrow over some rice for dinner!!
Also bought some Wildfish Cannery Tins and excited to try those when they get here but Thanks again everyone!💯
