Nearly 75 people filled the Corning Children’s Center Friday for its annual Grinch-themed Free Community Youth Center Holiday Dinner.

Bianca Crandle, Director of Youth Services & Prevention Services, said the dinner brought people together to celebrate kindness, generosity, and the true spirit of the holiday season.

“Inspired by the Grinch’s transformation, the event emphasizes that the holidays are about love and connection, not just material gifts,” Crandle said. “In addition to a free meal for all, every child in attendance receives a small gift, and Santa made a special appearance.”

Crandle said several city and Steuben County officials attended the event and helped foster unity and created lasting memories, encouraging everyone, regardless of circumstances, to experience the joy of the season through community support and kindness.

“I’m very excited,” said Landon Akens, an 11-year-old at Friday night’s event.

Thirteen-year-old Maelyn Byron agreed.

“I’m over the roof excited,” Byron said. “I come here every day and I really like it a lot.”

Corning City Mayor Bill Boland called the event fun for everyone that attended.

Crandle said next year will be the Corning Children’s Center 25th year annual holiday party and the center hopes to see everyone back.
