Only tried it once, King Oscar, and it wasn’t a match made in heaven. Maybe I need to give it another shot?

  2. Made in China. $1. I can’t do it. Can’t do it. Mediterranean

  3. This is the main ingredient in some popular street foods of SE Asia, sauteed in onions, some Thai chili, in Vietnam they put it in banh mi ([banh mi ca moi](https://wildgreensandsardines.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/DSC1889.jpg)) and Malaysia in flattened bread, filled with tomato sardines and onions and rolled then deep fried ([roti sardin](https://media.myresipi.com/2023/07/roti-sardin-kantin-sekolah.png)). Great after bar times eating this stuff in SE Asia.

As kids, a quick meal the parents would use the same sauteeing prep method but put it mashed on a clear broth noodle soup, or we’d just have it with rice or congee.

All of the Asian tomato sardine brands are more or less the same (when it says it’s the spicy type, it’s not really that spicy (to me)) , 555/Mega/Ligo/Sumaco/Ayam etc. Mind you western tomato sardines taste very different, more muted tomato flavour and salt I’ve noticed.

These are great. Pretty different from normal sardines because of the tomato.

I don’t like that one. It would make me sick to my stomach.

  6. Sardines in tomato sauce is a hard pass for me. I am not sure why, because I am not picky at all, but it does not taste good to me in any way. I kind of wonder if this is how cilantro haters feel– people talk about how tasty cilantro is and all they can think about is how soapy it tastes.

I’m about to crush a can of these as we speak lol

Sautéing deens in tomato sauce (i.e. Ligo) is SOP in the Old Country (Philippines), with minced garlic and onions. Pairs so well with rice.

  9. As an Italian-American who grew up with homemade sauce, Nuri is the only brand I’ve found so far for a good tomato sauce sardine

there’s a great jaq pepin recipe on a salad that I eat a fair amount in summer.

Not a fan unless it’s spicy, otherwise I try to drain off as much as possible

This particular brand is a bit too fishy for my liking. I have 5 cans left and I have to rinse them if I’m going to eat it. They have way too much guts in them.

I have this one but have yet to try it!!
