I find running it at full heat for an hour, dawn power wash, a heavy duty scrubber/scraper, and some PAM to season after does the trick for just about every grill I’ve had

Any oven or grill cleaner will work. Spray it on, let it foam up and sit for a few hours and scrub with steel wool or similar. Clean it all out real good with water, before turning the grill on to burn off anything else, let it cool, give it a coat of cooking oil and turn it on again to bake the oil into the metal to give it some seasoning.
