So good when deep fried. The texture and the stink is oh so good

  2. It’s really crazy how much the look varies with this dish. I’ve seen it looking black, and very wet/oily. Other times it was really dry looking like this. Even the smell varies a lot based on the place. And most of the time I’ve seen it around Guangdong/Guangxi/HK, so all relatively close.

If you want to know what this smells like, collect your gym socks in a bag for a month, then grab some pickles and add those in there. Boil everything together, and then let it sit for another month. Take a big whiff while looking at this picture and you’ll get the real experience!

I love stinky Tofu! I ate it 2x a week when I lived in Taipei (great food city) it was strange that my wife, who eats stinky fermented Thai stuff all the time, was not a fan. If you like stinky cheese, you might be open to liking stinky Tofu.

If you like stinky tofu after trying it (braised or fried – they’re delicious, imo!) you might not react as strongly to the smell anymore, kinda like the way some people love durians. Now, whenever I come across the smell, I think: “oof, that smells like it tastes great” 😂

I’m soooo jealous! Haven’t been in years! Enjoy enough for those of us who can’t be there!

It won’t stink if we just call it “Cho-Do-Fu” ^^

(There is this Taiwan P[anorama](https://taiwan-panorama.com) magazine which has existed since forever and for some reason they translate all those terms in the worst possible ways, e.g., stinky tofu)

Walk around the corner and boom. Stinky tofu in the face. It’s such a turnoff at first but it does taste better than it smells. Would I eat it everyday? Nope. Does it have to have the pickled veggies? Absolutely. And lots of 辣

  9. I absoultly love starting the day with fresh dou jiang, but stinky tofu has never really won me over.

Best stinky tofu is in Tainan or Chengdu (China).

I love stinky tofu. I tried it in Taiwan and thought it smelled okay.
