KEARNEY, Neb. (KSNB) – Hot Meals USA is making sure everyone in the Tri-Cities has a hot meal with their annual Christmas event.

The organization has been serving the community for decades, and this year’s meal will be held at Mom and Dad’s BBQ and Catering Restaurant in Kearney.

Greg Clark, a fundraising representative for Hot Meals USA, expressed excitement about continuing the tradition with a festive feast.

“This is going to be a full Christmas day style meal, we got turkey, dressing, we will have some vegetables, and some mashed potatoes,” said Clark. “We’re also offering a service to delivery those meals to people who might not want to get out or might not be able to get out sometimes even for cooking a Christmas can be too much work.”

Brenda Cochran, corporate communications coordinator for Hot Meals USA, emphasized the organization’s mission to serve and improve the community through food.

“These meals are going to people in Grand Island, Minden, Holdrege, Lexington, Cozad, and Gothenburg so we are still looking for a few people to help us get meals there,” said Cochran. “If anyone just walks up Christmas morning and thinks I’d look to do something great today and they can join us and we will find a spot for them.“

Cochran added that Hot Meals USA operates like a family, whether providing meals during a disaster or over the holidays.

“We know that when our belly are full we can accomplish great things and so when we can feed people and help in that way we know that other good things can happen too,” she said. “I think there’s a lot of negative out there in the world and to be a positive force for anybody at anytime or anywhere or no matter what that is a great skill to have and pass along to our kids and just good to help other people.“

Curbside pickup and delivery orders must be submitted by 5 p.m. on Dec. 22 and can be placed by calling the Jubilee Center at (308) 234-3880.

Meals will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Christmas Day.
