Catching up on videos that I’ve had half-done for a while, this is a 3-Way Roast Beef sandwich I made but go to Modern Butcher in Danvers, MA some Saturday morning if you want the real thing! #roastbeef #homemade #northshorebeef #sandwichtok #sandwichtiktok

  1. I recently stumbled on your channel, and I'm so thrilled I did. You've got this great passion for such a diverse topic, and your voice and cadence really lends itself well to your short form videos. Thanks for the great content!

  2. As a Pittsburgher, I appreciate your admiration of the great Rick Sebak. Next to Mr. Rogers you'd be hard pressed to find a finer representative of our city. Love your channel!

  3. Always curious what is meant by "American cheese" – given – outside of the US American cheese doesnt have a great name (in fact often laughed) and its usually associated with the more "plastic" varieties of things like cheese singles, cheese in a can etc etc
    Is it a brand?

  4. I went to a roast beef place in Newburyport, MA (birthplace of one of my close friends and the word “yeat”), and it was life changing. Truly the best I’ve ever had. Unfortunately, I’ve heard from my friend’s family, the shop had closed during the covid shutdown.

Edit: it was called Courtyard. It has a different name and owners now.

  5. Massachusetts native here, specifically from the North Shore. I have grown up on these roast beef sandwiches, so I'm glad to see someone showing some appreciation to one of our greatest contributions to society. I remember once a friend of mine from the Army who grew up elsewhere in the county was shocked one day to learn I never had an Arby's roast beef sandwich before and he insisted we go. He was disappointed from my reaction when I finally ate one and thought it was ok, at best. I had to explain to him there is a reason why Arby's doesn't have a location east of Worcester, MA. It's because of the innumerable amount of excellent roast beef spots that practically surround Boston, especially the North Shore.

  6. Love the video. As a mild obsessive about North Shore Beef, I wanted to say… Kelly's is a disappointing tourist trap, it's always overcooked and overpriced.

With that out of the way, Hotbox & Modern are both fantastic, but they're both the 'new' generation revamping the sandwich and setting a really high bar. If you really want the classics, Nick's in North Beverly is the last remaining of the original "trifecta", the other two being Harrison's in Andover & Courtside in Newburyport. If you're ever back in the area, it's a must!

  7. As a fat guy, a "Sandwich Journey" is our coming of age…..much like a native American "Spirit Quest" or an Australian "Walkabout"

  8. Thanks for shining a light on my personal favorite local sandwich. My favorite for now is Steve's Famous Roast Beef in Haverhill! The super beef (largest size, onion bun) is still only 10 bucks!!

  9. Kelly's is a shadow of what it used to be, but they certainly helped inspire the effort to perfect this type of sandwich, which has reached its pinnacle (so far) at Modern. The North Shore Beef is a wildly imperfect but nonetheless incredibly delicious sandwich that at its best delights first and foremost with its texture, and then the flavors of the meat and the condiments, with the cheese contributing some melty saltiness. And hey, if you find yourself on the North Shore, you owe it to yourself to get some whole belly fried clams and a seafood chowder at Farnhams. Two incrediblly worthy reasons to visit.
