I don’t know how to fix the bottom edges being so rough and it’s cracked all over and it’s killing me lol but otherwise I’m proud of it! Did my best with the writing with icing out of a tube mixed with some vodka.
The inside is red velvet with cream cheese frosting!

This is amazing! The writing is so good.
You could cover the cake board in icing (gold, black or even a dark green) and bring it up to cover the edges around the bottom of the cake.
If you do it with fondant, then use the ‘toilet seat’ method where you cut the icing in the shape of a toilet seat then wrap it around the cake. You’ll only have one join to smooth out. You can use this method all the time instead of covering the whole board every time.

I don’t want to sugarcoat it, so I’ll be honest.
No, it doesn’t look like a ring, but if I had a friend who’d take the effort and time to doing a cake from my suggestion for my boyfriend like you did, I would hug and kiss the hell out of them, plus I would be so thankful to have a friend ready to make an effort and take time to bake this for me !
Lastly, the most important thing : you, my tongue and my infinite appetite do know that the appearance of the cake means nothing, it’s ALL ABOUT THE TASTE.

OP, this is excellent. I’m particularly partial to the specific shade of the metallic icing, it’s like a light gold rather than an aggressively yellow one. Looks shinier. The tengwar lettering is a pain in the ass on paper let alone on a cake and it looks great. You *should* be proud!
