MARION, S.C. – City of Marion Mayor Ashley Brady along with police officers, fire fighters and public works staff put together a team effort loading up boxes of holiday meals in partnership with Food Lion to deliver to families Wednesday.

The 14th annual Christmas food box drive included 100 boxes distributed throughout the city to help citizens during the holiday season.

“We’re happy to help out the community,” Food Lion store manager Thomas Boatwright said. “We look forward to this every year.”

Boatwright said he’s glad the food drive continues to be done every year.”

Brady called it a great day.

“We have a lot of individuals that need that little extra support during Christmas time,” he said. “We’re able to partner with our community members and they make contributions to it and we do the food boxes. Food Lion has been great to work with and get this all together.”

Brady thanked the first responders for making the deliveries.

“It’s a good thing for the city of Marion,” he said. “We will be able to help 100 families all over Marion. We work with a couple of different agencies and churches. There is a need everywhere.”

Brady gave credit to staff for decorating downtown, illuminating Main Street with Christmas lights along with presenting the annual parade and prelude program.

“Our public works get all the decorations and keep it going for the whole season,” he said. “It’s 30 to 40 days for keeping the decorations going. Marion is a beautiful town. Especially like we had the Christmas parade followed by the Christmas tree lighting program and Santa rode in on a fire truck followed up by a great fireworks show.”

Brady said Marion shines at Christmas.
