**Over 21 nights, I made my way through a lot of delicious Japanese cuisine.** This carousel doesn’t include everything I ate, but here are 20 of the highlights. In no particular order:
1: My first round of sushi from Uogashi Nihon-Ichi, a standing bar sushi restaurant on the west side of Shinjuku.
2. The 4 curry sampler from Wakakusa Curry in Nara. It was all delicious, but the hot brown lamb curry was my favourite.
3. The deep-fried beef cutlet set from GYUKATSU KYOTO KATSUGYU . I opted for one of the higher end cuts, but not the most premium set.
4. A Beef and Matsutake Mushroom Sukiyaki self-heating bento box meal I picked up in Kyoto Station for my Shinkansen ride. I was pleasantly surprised at how good it tasted.
5. Shrimp Tempura Soba and a Sparkling Sake on Miyajima Island. Looked very simple, but had a wonderful depth of flavour.
6. Coffee soft serve, also on Miyajima Island.
7. Pork Tonkatsu from Katsukura Tonkatsu Sanjo in Kyoto.
8. A Wagyu Smash Burger with the best, lightest onion rings I’ve ever had, and a very crispy coke from Henry’s Burger in Jiyugaoka.
9. Level 5 Spiced Ramen from Afuri in Shinjuku.
10. Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki from the Okonomi Village in Hiroshima. I opted for one with extra green onions and a fried egg.
11. Beef Sukiyaki set from Yakinuku Like in Tokyo.
12. Donald Duck Shrimp Bun from DisneySea – tender, flavourful and moist.
13. Green onion dumplings and lemon dumplings, with the best fried chicken of my trip, from Gyozayaryu in Hiroshima.
14. Margarita pizza from Seirinkan in Tokyo – oily, chewy, salty and fresh!
15. A raspberry fois gras sandwich, one of the 8 courses from my French omakase dinner at L’as in Tokyo.
16. Spicy beef curry udon with potato foam from Shodai. So creamy and comforting.
17. Oyakodon set from Toriyoshi Shoten in Asakusa – so incredibly cheap too – the set with an alcoholic drink came to less than $10 Canadian.
18. A momiji manju that I randomly bought from the cafe at the Peace Memorial Museum Cafe. Probably my favourite sweet that I had in all of Japan, wish I had purchased more of them!
19. A shrimp tempura tendon set, with an extra fried egg from Tendon Makino Kyoto Teramachi. Once I was mostly finished with the tempura, the staff gave me some broth to pour over the rice and make it into a soup.
20. Hiroshima-style Tsukemen from Bakudana in Hiroshima – This cold, yet spicy local dipping noodle dish was so refreshing on a very hot afternoon.
As you might be able to tell, I really enjoyed the food scene in Hiroshima!

Looks like you had quite the wonderful culinary experience! You’ve done very well. Even the Suntory Highball can was an excellent choice!

Sushi Bars like that first photo are the best. I went to one by the Imperial Palace in Tokyo Summer 2023 with my wife and one of my best friends and it was the best sushi I’ve ever had by like 1000 miles.
