Are both these two tanks 20lb tank? (Can the 15lb Amerigas tank actually hold 20lb propane?)

The likly answer is yes. This is why we tell people to find a place that does a refill not a trade in. The trade in companies are not allowed to transport full tanks so they only give you 15 lbs. Where as you get a full tank and a lower price when you get them refilled.

Yes. They are both 20#. They can hold 20, bit for logistic and “safety” reasons. Most large swap suppliers only fill to 15. Look for your local propane distributor for home heat. They will tell you where you can go to get the tanks actually filled. If you want the hassle.

I go to the local U-Haul rental place. I get a full 20 lb refill for less than the cost of a 15 lb swap.

  4. I buy a quart of Milk but it will hold a gallon I think

Yes, and if it doesn’t, then the guy at ace will tell you what it holds.

I only go to swap out if I have a tank that is out of date and swap for a good in date tank.

The companies only fill to 15lbs they all take 4.8 gallons

Propane tanks are never filled to 100%. There needs to be headroom so they are filled to 80%. It’s a safety thing. It can be done but it’s not the safest thing. Most places follow the 80/20 rule. I only know this because i had to take a propane class for my job
