The photo isn’t the reason but I needed to vent. The work itself is easy but the people make it harder than it has to be. Anyways early merry Christmas ya filthy animals

I … think that’s the most respectful back and forth I’ve ever seen in this kind of miscommunication.
Flat_News_2000
How didn’t they realize? Lol that’s the only way that first text could be taken.

I had a kitchen manager that was like this. He would send one of the cooks home and genuinely forget to call in a replacement. We would be balls deep into the 7pm dinner rush and there’d be 3 of us when we needed 4. The worst.

why you apologizing? I thought the same thing
TanisBar
It almost seems Respectful?

Me seeing the sub and OP’s title and thinking “oh boy here we go again with another shitty chef text”
Lucky-Cricket8860
Why in the fuck did you go in? That’s their mess
Krazy_Karl_666
so to me it reads as op originally was scheduled to clopen. then got the 1st message and thought they didn’t have to work the night shift. and somehow that didn’t turn into a screaming match.
Am I close?
be cause I have never seen that sensible communication without some passive aggressive comments thrown in

If it’s a nice boss but they’re in the habit of being confusing or forgetful, they’ll never be unhappy if you double confirm clearly everything you think they’re saying. I wish I’d known this earlier in my career, I’ll take that over an asshole who’s good at scheduling.

One time my boss fired me on my day off because I had traded shifts with someone and he approved it but forgot. After firing me he called the other guy and just texted me “never mind”. So uhhh you’re batting 1000 here

If you hate your job you should get another. That simple. No excuses, just do it.
walapatamus
Shit at least no one was a dick about it
Zonel
This seems alright. Like the boss screwed up his messaging and admitted to it and wasn’t angry at you. Mildly infuriating maybe…?
SinisterDetection
As far as venting goes that’s pretty mild

Worked with a manager like this, they changed the schedule all the time without letting anyone know, then would call you asking where you are at
MaxMischi3f
This isn’t even that bad. They said I’m sorry twice and saw how what they said could be misconstrued.
Like, I’d kill for a self aware manager that didn’t just lay the boot in harder.

Mistakes happen, but you’re both courteous. Most jobs suck.

Let’s just hope he didn’t get too stoned after thinking he was off for the night

I kept swiping trying to find the post that makes him hate his job…. I’ve never had such a lovely interaction with a supervisor…

So this post was recommended to me, I’ve never worked in an actual kitchen just a couple fast food places. But this post reminded me of an incident with my GM at a Steak ‘n Shake.
Middle of my shift she pointed at me and said “you can go” and pointed out the door. I had my ride come and get me. 30 mins later she’s calling me saying “where are you?” And almost fired me. Apparently she was sending me on break but bc she had been saying labor was high earlier, I thought she was telling me to go home. I was super embarrassed but looking back, that place just really sucked lol.

Would kill for management that admits they are wrong. I know it’s not why you’re upset or venting, but you’re lucky for that.

The fuck up Is saying “I’ll be there in a little bit”. Stick to your guns my friend. Also, because of this interaction, I would get any approved time off documented (text, email, voicemail, etc) for at least a solid year. If it happens again within that year, I’d make sure I have it documented indefinitely.
But that’s just me. I have been burned before. CYOA
