It's Christmas eve and there's been a last minute change of plan. I have a big ham that I'm going to cola ham. Too big for the two adults and two kids I'm feeding tomorow. Can i freeze the cooked meat once cooled? Has anyone any experience of doing this. After safety advice as well as the quality of the food afterwards.

Thanks slow cookers. Happy Christmas.

BTW. Ham is thawing already so can't be refreezing for another day.

You can but there’s no guarantees about how the texture will turn out. I’ve never done it with ham but in the past turkey has been alright. If it comes out a bit soft after thawing again you could use it split pea soup or dumplings, chilli, etc.

In terms of food safety, I think as long as it’s cooled beforehand and it doesn’t sit out for too long it should be okay? I would probably prep the meat into a few different food containers instead of tossing the whole ham in the freezer. Keep in mind that your freezer will have to work overtime to freeze a large quantity, keeping extra ice packs or frozen veggies in the freezer before you’re ready to cool down large things helps keep the freezer temp more stable.

Yes this is fine. Make sure it is thoroughly defrosted and cooked through before eating, and don’t reheat a third time.

I like to freeze in portions so I can grab a slice for a sandwich!

Fantastic thanks! Great point about spreading the meat about the freezer to give a more even freeze. Have just bunged it in previously.

Also, completely get the freezer grazing. Kids will be lucky to get anything but slow cooker or freezer potions before the age of 10!

Happy yule time everyone. Looking forward to hearing others’ festive slow cooker activity. Underrated
