I just had Red Hook for the first time, funny enough these are my top 2 burgers in the city. I definitely still have Lords as my #1 though. The combo of their cheese and whatever they do with their onions is unbeatable.
However, I do put Red Hook as a restaurant above Lords and could honestly be my favorite restaurant in the city.

Maybe it was a fluke but Red Hook Taverns burger wasn’t anything awesome for me. Haven’t tried Lord’s but rode my bike to RHT for the burger and was left wanting. Eager to try lord’s.

Is Lord’s still doing the thing where they only serve like 20 a night or something?

These are very good but they’re not “smash burgers”, the point of which is to smash a small amount of ground meat on the flattop well so it’s very thin and cooks almost immediately, then put two or more together with cheese in between. In my humble opinion, and I’ve made many like that. I think the smash burger should exist in its own category and not be judged against the great tavern burgers

The onion looks too big on both of those burgers

I loved the RHT burger the first couple of times but recently, it seems like it’s become aggressively peppery. Like burn your throat peppery. I think it’s intentional because it’s happened twice. Lord’s Burger is incredible. FYI, I heard that the Red Hook people are opening a tavern in Sag Harbor that’s going to have the burger.

I really like red hook taverns burger, but my gf isn’t a fan of peppercorn like I am. Do you think she’d like Lord’s?

Perhaps unpopular but I didnt quite rate the lords burger. Maybe it was an off night but the Welsh rarebit cheese sauce had barely any flavor – and I do regularly make Welsh rarebit as a snack, and the patty itself was barely seasoned.
I will say though, I did enjoy the thicker raw onion and started doing that to my own burgers.
IMO rolo’s does a way better “limited availability” burger.

Red Hooks is just a knock off of Peter Lugers.
People love to hate Lugers so that fact never gets talked about.
