I primed it till 500 degrees and no smoke. Then brought it down to 350 and no smoke as soon as I added the food the hopper started smoking. Before this I emptied the hopper and replaced the old pellets. This is barely its second use what am I doing wrong?

I’ve had it do that on mine before and the reason was there was too much build up on the vents of my smoker. I put a spatula through each vent to clear it out and it operated perfectly.

Back burned down the auger tube.

Is there ash and buildup in the firepot? Could cause an airflow problem.

I had this issue. Took my auger out and there was a ton of hard, caked together pellet mush at the end of my auger. Not sure if water got in there or it heated up to get that way. Removed that chuck and it runs great now
Mine was also 4 years old and I had never cleaned the auger before

Shouldn’t have any smoke there. Auger tube fire or blocked chimney vent.
