WHY do people always refer to salmon as a “high cal” food? This entire 50g packet of smoked salmon is just 80kcal.

I think it’s more so that it adds up? I mean personally I love salmon and these smoked salmon packs are to die for! But personally if I’m using a meat as the main ingredient in my cooking I opt for something that’s practically 1 to 1, like extra lean turkey or kangaroo. And when I can afford it, prawns! I think it’s also got something to do with the fat content? I don’t really care about the fat content in my food (or know much about it in general), but I think people hear salmon and associate it with fats, even when those fats are pretty healthy ones. (Fatty foods tend to have higher cals, that kinda stuff)
But in the end who knows 🤷♂️ the only thing I know for sure is that salmon is pretty damn good, expensive but good!! Enjoy your smoked salmon OP!

salmon is a high cal food when prepared freshly due to the high fat content. this is smoked salmon however and a majority of the fat has been rendered off or cut off and not the salmon people are talking about typically.
