    Can you give us more context? Are there multiple layers of pie crust in there? Did you use flour in the filling?

    I use a few tbsps of butter under the top layer of pie crust to help soften and cook the apples without ruining the crust below. Never have i seen the apples inside look like this.

    1) Filling: needs a bit more even coverage of the spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, etc) and sugar, it looks very unevenly coated/flavored.

    2) Filling, part 2: the layering of the apple slices is magnificent

    3) Bottom crust: slightly dry. But not a deal-breaker.

    4) Top crust: I like it! Is it cake- or shortbread-like?

    I don’t think there’s supposed to be a visible crust of uncarmelized sugar on the top. It looks like you used a slice of white bread for the top of the pie.

    I’m a baker and I wouldn’t have been able to tell you this was an apple pie. It’s something, but I don’t think it identifies as apple pie.
