Hudson Valley residents have shared their opinions on the classic Thanksgiving menu, and their favorite dish might surprise you.
Planning holiday gatherings is no simple feat, but one thing you can count on every year is the menu on Thanksgiving Day. With few exceptions, the lineup is mostly the same.
There will be turkey. There will be gravy. There will be pumpkin pie.
Shining stars on the Thanksgiving table, though, are the side dishes, and everyone has their favorite. Do you use that extra space on your plate for a second helping of stuffing or sweet potato casserole? What about cranberry sauce: Do you cut slices from a can-shaped cylinder or spoon out whole berry sauce?
We asked you to tell us your favorite side dish to eat on Thanksgiving. The votes are in, and Hudson Valley residents named a clear winner.
With 60.33% of the vote, dinner rolls took the top spot among holiday sides. In the next spot behind dinner rolls, 20.36% of Hudson Valley voters said mac and cheese was their favorite.
Stuffing took 6.98% of the vote and mashed potatoes took 2.58%. There was little love for casseroles in our poll, with sweet potato casserole earning just 1.24% of the vote and green bean casserole earning 0.67%. With 0.57% of the vote, cranberry sauce took last place in the poll.
There were also a few votes for dishes we didn’t consider as Thanksgiving classics, including pickles, olives, turnips and creamed onions.
