Scottie Scheffler has been forced to pull out of the first PGA tournament of the year and undergo surgery after getting a piece of glass stuck in his hand while preparing Christmas dinner.
Scheffler was scheduled to compete in the 2025 season-opener, The Sentry, from January 2-5 over in Hawaii.
Yet following a freak accident over the holiday period, the current World No. 1 will no longer be taking part as he prepares to spend three to four weeks recovering from the op on his hand.
‘On Christmas Day while preparing dinner, Scottie sustained a puncture wound to the palm of his right hand from a broken glass. Small glass fragments remained in the palm which required surgery,’ Scheffler’s manager Blake Smith said in a statement on Friday.
‘He has been told that he should be back to 100% in three to four weeks. Unfortunately, he will have to withdraw from The Sentry. His next scheduled tournament is The American Express.’
