  1. Bananas cut in half lengthwise, then covered with mayonnaise and rolled in crushed salted peanuts is something special! My grandmother used to make this for every holiday and I would gorge myself on them.

  2. a lot of classic American dishes are literally the same as what we did with American English. Is it originally ours, nope. But did we change it and make it more American. Absolutely.

  3. I think for americanised Chinese food, its important to remember most of those chinese chef dont cook like that at home excepting similar noodles maybe. Its purely for commercial reasons most of the time. Compared to italian american dish, where the italian diaspora definitely invented and adopted those dish as their own, not just to make more palatable to americans.

For this reason id say americanised chinese food is american, not chinese.

  4. No – string cheese is mozz – cheddar does not come off in strings and therefore – not "string" cheese.

  5. genuine question: why are these never shown as being the podcast in the title or thumbnail? it always just looks like a new random video at first glance

  6. “What is American food?” CAJUN/CREOLE FOOD!

the sofrito becomes the holy trinity. French and African methods are blended to make a new culinary technique with unique flavors and utilizing indigenous ingredients.

Great work though. Love the video. Hate(ish) Pepsi.

  7. im sure you are talking about the birria with bone marrow tacos in sanysidro… yall need to visit TJ again it has become a staple for food in the whole country

  8. Caesar Salad is proudly from my hometown of Tijuana, Mexico 🧐 You should take a trip down to the historic "Caesar's" restaurant where this salad was created, and they still make it at your table the OG way

  9. I'm a little shocked you didn't talk about the origins of hotdogs on your podcast named after hotdogs. The hotdog of today is undeniably American so it would be a short discussion but still.

  10. I agree with Josh. Continents are a social construct that is now outdated. There's no reason Europe and Asia should be separate continents other than culture, but we accept culture as an excuse. But then it's like… Arabia and South Asia are actually separate continents from Asia, but we still count them as Asian, California IS technically a separate continent from the rest of North America, Iceland is technically both in North America and Europe, and honestly there's a good chance we still don't know exactly where all the continental plates exactly are, or how many there are. And there's still debate about Indonesia and where the line between Asia and Australia is.

If we do allow continents to be defined by culture, then A) there would be far more continents than 7, and B) we would have to accept that continents change over time based on migration of people, which doesn't feel like it should count and also, I would argue, should make all of America above Mexico part of Europe.

  11. Cheese sticks are not string cheese just because they are sticks. THERE ARE RULES, PEOPLE.

  12. OMG, is ConTiki still around? I did my Grand European Tour with them back in 1980!! And most of the other people on the tour were Aussies then, too! (I thinkj the company is based in Australia, though, so that makes sense.) My mind is now blown.

  13. If you take influences from other parts of the world and then adapt it to an American palette, wouldn’t that make it American like there’s so many things like noodles and tomatoes that make its way to Italy and then we claim it so why wouldn’t orange chicken be American?

  14. My Grandma only ever drank Pepsi and 7-UP. She liked to make Pepsi ice cream floats for us and they're sooo good!! Miss her every day.

  15. Dang. Nicole coming out here swinging with "all sticks of cheese are string cheese". If ya can't string it, it ain't string cheese ya crazy! Thanks for the pod, both of ya!

  16. So using their Ceasar Salad logic. Pho, invented by Chinese migrants in N. Vietnam sold in street carts is 100% Chinese?

  17. I put a lot of effort into learning authentic Sicilian cuisine and methods. I don't agree that "people aren't looking for authentic regional Italian."

  18. I make the dressing from mayo, olive oil, anchovies and a little mustard. Close enough. Also make it into a lettuce wrap with bacon becauee im American, with american rights
