On Christmas? Park Hyatt, 17th or 18th floor rooftop lounge.

Ten years ago, I would have said 7West or The Lakeview Diner, but it’s been a minute and I can’t vouch for that vibe any more. I always felt this way at Cloak and Dagger on College, and at Penny’s Bar at Lansdowne if it’s not karaoke night (though not so much for food).

There are no doors to the outside. To me, it represents an eternal turmoil. They continue to fulfill a function, the server works, people exist, and the coffee remains, but what is the goal? There’s no outcome here, just purgatory. The quiet night, no one out on the street, no access inwards, just existence. What happens next? We aren’t given any clues, but I like to project that it continues, aimlessly onward, into the neverending night.

Kind of unrelated but I love the artwork done about greasy spoon restaurants by Toronto artist Brian Harvey. Reminds me of Nighthawks.

Vesta but it’s a whole lot less spacious inside than this.
It’s got authentic retro vibe and menu with modern pricing.

would be cool to bring the book ‘In Sunlight or in Shadow‘ to the recs you receive here and see how it reads while at the spots. It’s full of short stories, which makes it even better
BlazingHotFlipFlop
The joke is that there are many places like this in Toronto ( and Markham and all around parts of ON) made to look like this for tv filming scenes
