My sister curated the menu and let me be a part of the meeting with the owner of the restaurant to create a vegan dish that I would actually enjoy and could trust was prepared with a full understanding of the definition of vegan. Being able to indulge in a shared meal—not a lonesome pile of iceberg lettuce with cherry tomatoes while everyone else chats about their richly flavorful dishes—at a table with thirty friends and family is something I haven’t experienced in at least ten years. It wasn’t even my party (Happy 40th Birthday to my sister’s best friend!), but it was special for me because I got to enjoy something most people take for granted. So no restaurants in your area has vegan options on the menu? What a bummer.
When I became a vegetarian 20+ years ago I was frequently served pasta with tomato sauce or just potatoes with salad etc, but it’s a whole different situation now where I live. Chefs have actually started making vegan dishes and it’s glorious.
It’s 2024, if Chefs can’t figure out how to make a Vegan meal, then they aren’t great at their job.
I hope you had a good time, sorry about the food.
Happy belated birthday to your sister’s best friend! This would have been such a neat experience and that dinner sounds delicious! I lived in South Bend for years so I know your difficulties in finding vegan and vegetarian options. When Pinellia opened I felt like we won the lotto or something 🤣
I’m so glad you were able to break delicious bread with friends and family 🥰
