There’s no way the 1200+ calorie estimate is accurate, right? Like this didn’t magically double in calories with the same ingredients from when I ordered it a few weeks ago? What am I missing here?

I use HF for portion and calorie control so I generally pass on anything over 700+ per serving… but this dish was a favorite of mine from a few weeks back, and when selecting my meals for my box a few weeks out I noticed the count had skyrocketed for no obvious reason. Having had it before I don’t see how it can possibly be 1200+, so I feel like this is a weird misprint, but I scrolled right by it since I focus in on the calorie count first, then if it’s a non-premium selection, and then choose my meals from there.

Weird. Is this common or something others have noticed before? How to know which is accurate without adding up all the ingredients? I can live with it if it’s once in a blue moon but I’m curious to know if this is something that I’d need to be diligent about.

Maybe they put the number for both portions instead of per-portion?

I think this is probably a mistake. The rice bowl recipes usually run 600-800 calories, depending on whether there is cheese, the protein used, etc.

There are definitely some 1200 HF cal meals out there, but that would be excessive for this recipe.

  4. If you use LoseIt or MyFitnessPal to enter the recipe (import by URL and adjust until it’s correct), then the 690 calorie count here is correct:

Assuming you only use 3 tsp of cooking oil.

However, they do say to use a large drizzle of oil twice. A drizzle of oil is typically 1 tbs and I suppose a large drizzle might be 1.5 tbs.

The main difference for the 1220 calorie recipe is the nutrition information has way more fat, and they no longer say 3 tsp oil total:

So it all depends on how much oil you add to the pan to sauté. But note I needed to add almost 10 tablespoons of oil to the recipe to reach 1220 calories, which is triple what you’d expect for using 3 tbs. So looks like a mistake on their part.

With 2 tbs, you’re at 750 calories and with 3 tbs you’re at 810 calories.

Maybe they accidentally printed the calories for the whole recipe in one instance instead of per serving? I realize it’s not actually double, but sometimes the counts do shift a little over time, like if you get the same recipe a little while apart the calories might be 40 cor 50 alories different, so…maybe? Or they just straight up entered the number for a completely different meal and didn’t catch the error. Just glancing at the ingredients 1200 does seem very high.

In my experience, unfortunately, I always used to log things manually for HF meals because I found you couldn’t really count on their numbers. If you need it to be more accurate than just kind of eyeballing whether the ingredients seem reasonable and sort of comparable to other meals that you know meet your needs, it’s iffy.
