We moved into our house a few years ago that had a built in wine cellar. We're not huge wine drinkers (probably the wrong subreddit to admit that in 😂) and it's just been mostly used for storage. We're looking to get a bit of work done in rooms nearby and the contractor said he'd happily buy the shelving from us. Any idea what a ballpark price should be? And if this post is better for a different subreddit please let me know. Thanks in advance!

Two dollars, take it or leave it.

If it’s massive oak, one or two grands knowing it’s ‘made to the room size’ ?
Beautiful shelves, but the problem is that it’s mostly custom. So unless someone else has this exact space it’s not really going to fit. So the contractor may have a really low number in mind and hope that he can make it fit. The shelves are expensive if I had to guess you probably have $8k+ in there easily. I would expect someone to buy it all for about $1200
Not much realistically.
Ask the contractor how much he’ll give you.
Totally get having no interest if wine isn’t your thing. But crying here thinking about this beautiful custom wine cellar being taken out.
Not that this would fit in my current home. But anyone knows where to get such shelves or let them be made? I live in the Netherlands btw, not US..
Forget what’s worth, what is it worth to you?
If it was going to be trashed, you would probably have to pay for the haul trash or wait for your city’s scheduled dump day.
Just tell them to make you an offer and determine if that’s suitable for you.
Like the rest of the comments say, it’s custom so it’s not like you can put it up for sale and have a market to haggle with. Also, if you do put it up for sale, how long until it sells? how long do you put off your remodeling? Will you take it down after you sell it? Do you pay someone or will they deduct from the fee? If it’s a random person and not a contractor, what happens if they damage your home while removing?
If you are able to answer all those questions and like your answers, then go for it.
