My local co-op always has a few packs of sausage meat on reduced. I picked some up this week and slow cooked it – a bit too long if I’m honest – then bought some ready-made puff pastry.

My wife helped me load the pastry and score them – absolutely delicious.

I dislike the stodgy ones you get from supermarkets and certain chain bakeries, I always get gristle in mine. Given two packs of sausage meat and 2 packs of pastry (£10 total, if the meat is reduced) will make 30 sausage rolls, I’ll be doing this more often.

Cooked the sausage meat in a little oil in the slow cooker for 8 hours whilst working – I’d say it needs half that time, it started to brown too. Made into pastry and put on gas mark 6 for 25 minutes. Thinking of making more up and freezing them.
