January 1 is National Bloody Mary Day and that’s no accident with the amount of people who may be hungover after ringing in the New Year the night before.

If you’re able to rouse yourself enough to go out in person for a bloody mary, you may venture to The Cafe, 731 Brent St. in the Paristown neighborhood, for its “Mary Got Boojie’d,” a giant 24-ounce bloody mary cocktail that is more like brunch for three people in a glass than a simple cocktail.

The 24-ounce cocktail, which will set you back $60, made with The Cafe’s own Uncle Bogie’s Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey and served in a wide-mouth glass rimmed in spicy salt. The tomato base has a special kick and is jam-packed with a bouquet of savory comfort foods on wooden spears.

You and your friends can sip the bourbon Bloody Mary (individual straws provided) while eating kabob-style fried green tomatoes, candied honey bacon, smoked chicken wings, spicy shrimp, mini sliders with housemade bacon jam, a homemade biscuit with sausage, sweet chicken bites, a waffle, gobs of tater tots, pickles, and olives.

Outlook Inn Bloody Mary recipe

Outlook Inn bartenders wing it a bit, but they generally uses two or three shakes of Worcestershire sauce, a few drops of Tabasco, and a couple of dashes of celery salt and pepper.

1.5 ounces of your favorite vodka

Take a pint glass filled with ice and start with the vodka. Add seasonings. Top it off with the V8 and pour into a large shaker and go at it. Dump it all back into the glass and top with a peperoncino.
