Forgot to take an actual photo of it, but got to end 2024 with this wine and it was exciting to try a Blaufränkisch from Germany for the first time (have only ever had Austrian or Hungarian Blaufränkisch till now)

Very good pick! I live near Weingut Aldinger and so I can enjoy that wine very frequently 🙂
If you love bubbles too, try their Sekt (German Sparklingwine). Its phenomenal
If you want to climb up the quality ladder, try the „Aldinger: Lemberger Fellbacher Lämmler Großes Gewächs 2021“ its like the Grand Cru qualification in France.
Thats the highest „Blaufränkisch“ you can get in Germany.

Austrian wines are generally excellent value for money. Try to get your hands on pannobile. It is a group of winemakers that have created this label to raise the awareness and quality of Austrian wines (red in this case). Excellent stuff

Notes: I was so excited and impressed by this wine! I am trying to explore more of the world of German reds these days (as oftentimes when we buy German wine we’re in a bit of a rut, lots of Rieslings and mostly just whites in general). This wine had some great herbal notes, maybe something like thyme or rosemary, dry, tannic, and hints of sour cherry

I like Aldinger’s Blaufränkisch more than their Spätburgunder! Still, when it comes to German reds I prefer a lighter style.
